There are two full samples: one sent by the groom's family and one by the bride's. The wording differs only in a few lines, and those are the lines people most often get wrong.

The bride's family's card changes four things: the line about the daughter, the order of the names, the barat becomes "बारात आगमन" (arrival) instead of "प्रस्थान" (departure), and the groom's parents are named.

Opening lines (मंगलाचरण)
Most Hindu cards open with Ganesh, because every auspicious beginning does. Pick one:

- वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ। निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा॥
- मंगलम् भगवान विष्णु, मंगलम् गरुड़ध्वजः। मंगलम् पुण्डरीकाक्षः, मंगलाय तनो हरिः॥
If the family worships a particular deity, its name goes here instead: "॥ श्री राधे कृष्णाय नमः ॥", "॥ जय श्री श्याम ॥", or the kuldevi's name. That one line tells relatives a great deal about the family, which is why people care about getting it right.
Invitation lines
Use one in place of the "इस मंगल अवसर पर…" line in the samples.

शादी कार्ड शायरी
A two-line verse sits under the invocation or above the schedule. The first one below is the traditional favourite, and you will find it on cards printed fifty years ago; the rest are ours to use freely.
भेज रहे हैं स्नेह निमंत्रण, प्रियवर तुम्हें बुलाने को, हे मानस के राजहंस, तुम भूल न जाना आने को।
दो दिलों का मेल है, दो परिवारों का संग, आप आएँ तो पूरे हों, इस शादी के सारे रंग।
बजेगी शहनाई, सजेगी डोली, आप आएँगे तो पूरी होगी हमारी टोली।
आँगन में मंडप सजा, घर में गूँजे गीत, आशीर्वाद देने आइए, यही हमारी रीत।
नए सफ़र की शुरुआत है, साथ आपका चाहिए, दुआओं की इस बारात में, आप ज़रूर आइए।
बाल मनुहार
The children's request is a short, cheeky verse signed by the youngest cousins. It is the line guests read out loud.
मेरे चाचू की शादी में, आप जल्दी-जल्दी आना, नाचेंगे हम सब मिलकर, खाना खाकर ही जाना।
दीदी की शादी में, आना सबसे पहले आप, देर से आए तो, हम करेंगे नहीं माफ़। — चिंटू, पिंटू, गुड़िया
बुआ की शादी में, आप सब आना ज़रूर, वरना हम नाराज़ होंगे, ये बात है मशहूर।

Who signs where
- विनीत (Vineet): the host. Usually the parents, or the grandfather on a joint-family card.
- स्वागताकांक्षी (Swagatakankshi): the people who will welcome guests at the venue.
- दर्शनाभिलाषी (Darshanabhilashi): the wider family who hope to see you.
- R.S.V.P.: two or three people who will take calls, with phone numbers.
The full meanings are on wedding card terms. A parent who has passed away is still named, with स्व. (स्वर्गीय) before the name: "स्व. श्री रमेश शर्मा".
Common mistakes
The most common one is chiranjeev for the bride. चि. is for the groom; the bride is आयुष्मती or सौ. कां. Relatives notice.
Then the weekday. Check every date against its weekday on a calendar. A misprinted Saturday for a Friday sends people on the wrong day.
And too many names: a card with thirty darshanabhilashi names is hard to read on a phone. On a WhatsApp card, keep the list short, or write "समस्त शर्मा परिवार" and let the family name do the work.
